Annual Meeting of the Working Group on Labour Geography

- We are happy to announce that the Annual Meeting will begin on Thursday, 13 February 2025, at 10:00 and will end on Friday, 14 February 2025, at 17:00.
- We are looking forward to welcoming Dr. Lucí Cavallero from the University of Buenos Aires (Argentina), Prof. Dr. Sarah Marie Hall from the University of Manchester (UK), and Prof. Dr. John Holloway from the Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (Mexico) as keynote speakers.
The Working Group on Labour Geography ofthe German Society of Geography (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Geographie/DGfG) invites all members and interested researchers to its next annual meeting. It will be taking place at the Institute for Geography and Spatial Research, University of Graz, Austria, starting on Thursday 13 February 2025 at 10:00 and ending on Friday 14 February 2025 at 17:00.
With this meeting we aim to stimulate and foster exchange among researchers who are concerned with issues related to the organization of work, labour agency, and the social conditions and forms of workers’ collective organization in contemporary capitalism from a geographical perspective.
At the meeting we will discuss current topics in the field of labour geography and the broader research area of labour studies. This year, we will focus in particular on questions related to care and social reproductive work. We will debate feminist, Marxist, and other critical theories and approaches to understanding work and actively direct our attention to various forms of paid and unpaid reproductive labour. Contributions are open, however, from all those concerned with advancing the scientific field of labour geography theoretically and through practical engagement with workers’ struggles.
We are happy to invite you all to actively participate and contribute to shape the program. Possible contributions are:
- Presentation of a paper/research project or proposal (10-15min presentation & 15min discussion)
- Discussion of own paper/book chapter (draft) in a peer feedback session
- Proposal of a (creative) workshop you would like to organize (60-120min)
Contributions on research projects at any stage and from scholars at all career stages are welcome. The main working language of the meeting will be English; however, individual contributions may also be submitted in German. Please submit your abstract/description by the 2nd of January 2025 via the online registration form here (max. 500 words). If you would like to attend without presenting, please register via the same form by the 10th of January 2025.
We will try to organize the annual meeting in such a way that as many people as possible can take part. Attendance is free of cost. We pay attention to a barrier-free infrastructure. If you have specific needs or require childcare, please let us know when you register or contact the organising team so that we can take care of this. Catering will be vegetarian/vegan. In addition, the event times will be structured to facilitate travel with international night trains. Please let us know if you have any specific questions or concerns regarding travel, accessibility, and inclusivity.
